Today's Bible verse and devotion in my Devos app (iOS) was spot on my current predicament. When someone who you love and trust more than life has hurt you so much that living with him / her has become unbearable, what would you do? Do you stop loving them or do you do as what the Lord has done for the past 2000 years with us sinners and love him / her unconditionally?
Owe nothing to anyone - except your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God's law. (NLT Romans 13:8)
The app goes on to say (and I quote fully): If you don't show your love for someone, it may appear to other that they are not loved. Are you sidetracked by your busy day that you're forgetting the little things? Those little things add up and become powerful enough to send the wrong message. Overcome this and send a loving message. What speaks to your loved one? If it's confidence, encourage them. If it's feeling pretty, compliment them. If it's strength, support them. Fulfilling this law will honor God.
Sometimes, it will not take something really bad to make us question whether the person is worthy of our love. Often, it's because they don't take much effort to SHOW us that they love us (as written above), and then we question them if they love us. It also makes them question themselves of whether we are worthy of their love. Jesus only gave us two laws to follow: Love God and love your neighbor. And of course, for both, you love unconditionally~ whether that person shows he / she loves us or whether they are deserving or not. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. No buts or ifs.
