I have stumbled on an amazing website that offers FREE 3-minute retreats to set the tone of your day right, or change your ungodly attitude in the middle of the day, or just plain spend at least 3 minutes of your day in the stillness of the Lord. It's complete with relaxing music, scripture, and questions that will delve into your current state of faith.
The website is run by Loyola Press, a Jesuit ministry. Yes, the same order as Pope Francis. The site also offers teaching tools to form the Catholic faith, online study guides for Language Arts, and also sells books in its online shop. It also has a Spanish version! But, of course, my favorite is their 3-minute daily faith retreat :) Go, try it and reset your day!
(from my journal, 8/23/15) Today's devotion via DEVOS app (available for iOS and Android) was quite eye-opening. The passage reads:
You will desire to control your husband but he will rule over you.
The corresponding explanation said that Eve's punishment for eating the apple in the Garden of Eden was this (husband rule over wife). Instead of harmony between man and woman, we'll now have the battle of the sexes -- "the man who was to lovingly care for and nurture his wife would now seek to rule her, and the wife would desire to wrest control from her husband." TO BE CLEAR, Genesis 3:16 IS NOT A BIBLICAL COMMAND FOR MEN TO DOMINATE WOMEN! (Or vice versa for that matter.) Rather, what was written in the verse was a prophecy of the effect of the original sin on the two sexes :( So what then is the ideal relationship of man and woman in marriage? Here's the answer from Ephesians 5:
Today's Bible verse and devotion in my Devos app (iOS) was spot on my current predicament. When someone who you love and trust more than life has hurt you so much that living with him / her has become unbearable, what would you do? Do you stop loving them or do you do as what the Lord has done for the past 2000 years with us sinners and love him / her unconditionally?
Owe nothing to anyone - except your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God's law. (NLT Romans 13:8)
